Join us for important next steps in AUA's civic engagement & Urban Agriculture Ward Ambassador initiative!
Now that the dust has settled on Chicago's historic election, it's time for us to connect with our new city council! You're invited to join us on Tuesday, May 21st, 6pm-8pm, at AUA's West Loop office for important next steps in our civic engagement initiative. We'll be covering several new resources and partnerships that AUA has undertaken to support sustainable agriculture in Chicago, and we need your help in making sure our elected leaders know about them! We'll be discussing:
- The Chicago Safe Soils Initiative: a collaborative initiative between University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign), University of Illinois-Extension, and AUA to provide free soil screening for lead, and to build tools to inform stakeholder decision-making and develop evidence-based guidelines to mitigate potential soil risks to food production in Chicago.
- Grow Your Groceries: AUA is supporting UIC's Chicago Partnership for Health Promotion in connecting Chicagoans with resources for container gardening. The curriculum has step-by-step instructions for anyone to start growing their own food, with a specific focus on increasing access to produce for Chicagoans participating in the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP).
- AUA's just-printed Resource Guide: Chicago's most comprehensive compilation of local resources and information
We'll cover how to talk about these resources with alders and neighbors, have an opportunity to network with fellow ward ambassadors, and answer any civic engagement questions you have. This event is open and applicable to all, whether you have or haven't yet attended a Ward Ambassador 101 workshop. Light refreshments will be served.
